The Buoy Project

A Social Design Project

The Buoy chair project was originally conceived and designed for the integration of a homeless workforce, through the introduction of a woodworking program. As there is an immediate shortage of skilled labourers, the purpose of the design and supplementary program is to empower individuals by coaching and developing the basic fundamental skills of woodworking. By introducing the Buoy chair as not only a chair but an educational tool and marketing medium we hope to build a relationship between the art/design community and social sectors, working hand and hand in creating a skilled and productive community.

The moniker Buoy was coined as a representation of a beacon, and a means for struggling individuals to keep their head above water.

This Project was Nominated for INDEX Award 2011
